He owned his onw house on a farm. That means Mr. Holburg was born prior to the American occupation of New Mexico. It also means, see below, that he had to talk Spanish as well as English, as his wife could not speak English.

Note on the Hoburgs..... In the 1870 census it shows William Hoburg as a Military Storekeeper and having been born somewhere (HAN) whatever that means. AND his wife's first name there is listed as ENCARNACION.

Note: In the 1880 U.S. Federal Census she is listed in Mora County, La Junta Precince No. 11 as ABELINA WILDENSTEIN, the wife of carl Wildenstein. and it lists her father as being born in Vermont. I will use Wildenstein for the remainder of this family here for correctness.
