Francisco Xavier Fragoso y Adorno was a soldier in Santa Fe in 1790. He married Maria Francisca Alari in 1757 and had the children listed below. The funny thing about Francisco Xavier was his numerous hijados (god sons) and hijadas (god daughters) whom he and his wife as well as he and other women baptized. This included Juan Ynocencio Archuleta, my 2nd great grand uncle. Juan Ynocencio's and my common ancestors are Santiago Archuleta and Pascuala Gonzalez.
The last name Fragoso did not survive in New Mexico. There are Fragoso's here now but they are not descendants of don Francisco Xavier.
But the real mystery comes from the number of Indians and children of unknown parentage he and his family baptized. Were these Indian captives? If they were captives they were most probably used as servants (slaves) in the household. There were many of these Indian household servants (slaves) in New Mexican households in that era. It should be noted that the Indians also took many Hispano and Indian captives for the same purpose.

On 6 Nov 1756 Francisco Xavier baptized in Santa Fe Joseph Antonio Fragoso From the Moqui (Hopi) province. This individual is most certainly a Hopi boy.
On 14 Nov 1756 Francisco Xavier and a woman by the name of Antonia Bargas baptized Maria de los Dolores Fragoso a child and Maria Ignacia Fragoso an adult from the Apache nation. These women may have been mother and daughter.
On 16 May 1758 Francisco Xavier and his wife Maria baptized Margarita Dominga Fragoso who's parents are listed as unknown. It might be that the girl was an Indian or that someone left her at the doorstep of a soldier. That was not an uncommon occurrence at the time. Poor people might leave an infant whom they could not care for.
On 7 Apr 1766 Francisco Xavier and a woman named Ana Maria de Ulabarri baptized Maria Margarita Fragoso who's parents are listed as unknown.
