Statement posed by a reader in red below.
"I think that your Jose Raphael Benavides who married Maria Dolores is the same as my Jose Raphael Perfecto Benavidez who was married, later, to Pelegrina Montoya. If this is so, he was still alive past 1850. Can you let me know where you found documentation of his death so I can quit pursuing this line? I am also willing to share my research."My response to the statment above.
They were brothers. Domingo Benavidez and his wife Guadalupe Garcia had at least nine (9) children, one of whom was Jose Rafael and another who was named Jose Rafael Perfecto. There is a lot of documentation that Jose Rafael was dead as early as October of 1850 while Jose Rafael Perfecto and his wife were still having children as late as 1867.

When Jose Rafael Benavidez's daughter Maria Cimona Benavidez (one of my paternal great grandmothers) was being married on 30 November 1850 at San Miguel del Bado she was identified as the daughter of Rafael Benavidez, deceased and of Dolores Garcia.
